About this database

The BioAgora project is a collaborative European initiative funded by the Horizon Europe program. Its primary goal is to bridge the gap between scientific research on biodiversity and policymaking by fostering targeted dialogue between scientists, knowledge holders, and policy actors. As part of BioAgora's Task 3.2, UNEP-WCMC developed this database to map the policy impacts of EU-funded biodiversity research projects and to identify the conditions that enable or hinder research uptake. You can read more about BioAgora here.

This database contains an analysis of 193 EU-funded biodiversity research projects have had an impact on policy, and what conditions helped or hindered that influence. It covers projects active between 2008 and 2025, funded under the EU's main research programmes (FP7, Horizon 2020, FP7 MCA, Horizon 2020 MSCA, Horizon Europe). For full details on the methods, and scope and limitations, see the D3.2 Knowledge synthesis report of existing and ongoing projects and initiatives.

You can use this database to:

  • Explore what types of policy impact EU-funded biodiversity projects have reported, and how strong the supporting evidence is
  • Identify the factors that enabled or hindered research uptake into policy
  • Understand how projects have contributed to the EU Biodiversity Strategies for 2020 and 2030
  • Examine how project characteristics, such as duration, consortium composition, and knowledge broker involvement, relate to policy outcomes
  • Find projects relevant to specific BDS2030 targets, BDS2030 pillars, or BioAgora demonstration cases
